As Director of Business Development for BackType, you will be the first person responsible for the combination of sales, business development and marketing. We power social functionality for over 100 companies; we've served billions of API requests. We already partner with some great companies – The New York Times, Twitter, Bitly, SlideShare, Hunch, HubSpot and others – but we need you to take us to the next level and build strong paths to customers. Your progress will be measured in validated customer learning and revenue, and you will report directly to the CEO.
You will hustle hard to discover, explore and develop new business opportunities. The ideal candidate has worked on substantial technical projects in the past, but is more excited about getting out of the building and talking to customers. We're looking for someone who thinks about markets and customers in a disciplined way and practices customer development religiously.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Know the market, the product and the competition intimately
- Maintain a deep understanding of our core technology and capabilities
- Validate hypotheses about customer problems and solutions
- Evaluate potential business opportunities for scalability and repeatability
- Work alongside the founding team to capture and execute interesting opportunities
- Create and deliver custom reports for customers that leverage our powerful back-end infrastructure
- Evaluate and pursue potential channel partnerships for customer acquisition
REQUIREMENTS
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Significant past experience in business development or sales
- Practitioner of customer development
- Obsessed with learning about customers and their problems
- Highly motivated, competitive personality
- Comfortable working in chaos and uncertainty
